Academy course on Equivoque and TTTCBE
How would you like to create the illusion of influence over people, using nothing but the power of your words?
Well you can and you will very soon when you join us for a fantastic evening at the Alakazam Academy with our core Tutor, Mr John Carey!
The crux of this lesson will be an in-depth discussion and workshop on the art of verbal subterfuge and control, more popularly known as Equivoque.
We have wanted John to present his thoughts and work on this fantastic concept for some time now and are so pleased he’s found time in his busy schedule to finally do it!
If you’ve never used Equivoque or Magicians Choice before, trust us, a whole new world awaits you.
Carey has built a reputation in recent years for his use of this concept and whether you are new to Mentalism or a more experienced practitioner, there is truly something for everyone in this lesson.
John will start from the ground up, discussing the basic fundamentals which will enable you to force pretty much any small item at will!
Never again will you be at a loss to perform as you can borrow everything to perform some incredible mysteries.
Then he will expand upon this and teach more advanced applications, discuss attitude, perception and psychological concepts that will truly inspire you!
In addition, John will teach 3 powerful Equivoque based effects that you will really love to learn and perform.
- The Imaginary Deck– A playing card formed by a spectator using their imagination and choices is shown to have been predicted in advance. Super streamlined and you don’t even need a deck of cards!
- Lucky 7!Carey’s Just Chance effect. So fair looking as they make the decisions as the mystery unravels. A worker!
- Destiny.John’s approach to Max Maven’s Classic B’Wave is a beautiful 3 phase mental mystery. The great news is that this version uses no gaffs and is examinable! If that isn’t enough, you haven’t seen nothing yet.
- Freewilling. The Classic Freewill effect on Steroids! You will love this…
- Spectator Mindreader. You think of a card and they read your mind. Be bold and be brave!
Carey will then perform, discuss and teach his work and thoughts on what he believes to be one of the strongest and greatest of card effects, Dai Vernon’s amazing Trick that cannot be explained. If you’ve never seen the effect before, hold on tight because you are in for a treat as an impossible seeming prediction unfolds. The great thing is that the effect is never the same, like a piece of Jazz, but with everything under your control to a definitive climax. The earlier Equivoque skills taught and discussed will come to the fore in this part of your lesson, as well as several gambits, ruses and strategies that will enlighten you and delight you. Believe us when we say this is truly a reputation maker!!!

Should i say it??? of course, a five star for this academy!!! As always john’s magic and teaching is clever, clear and always to the point. Is work on equivoque is unbelievable and is thoughts on TTTCBE are brilliant! i was expecting a lot from the TTTCBE part because it is a trick that i love to perform and work on… and i must say great job Mr Carey!! Now i have some thought to share with you on this.
Excellent masterclass again by JC. Thoroughly explained and covered in every detail and all variations are not just left to your own understanding, John goes into every possible scenario and delivers in true Carey form SIMPLICITY DIRECT POWERFUL well done again sir.
It didn’t come as a surprise to me that this was an excellent, five-star lecture. You come to expect that from the Alakazam gang. I came for the equivoque lecture and got it—and it was superb. I also got an excellent lecture on TTTCBE, which was a great bonus. John’s a personable guy and a terrific teacher. While there’s stuff around on equivoque that you can read–and Stephen Tucker has a short video that’s good–but this is the new de facto lecture on the topic. I thought that I knew what I needed to know and was pretty slick at it. I was wrong. Carey does some of the smoothest equivoque that I’ve ever seen, and I learned some new nuances and techniques. This is a steal at the amazing price.
I’ve played around with equivoque many times in the past, but John has taken it to another level. Simple to follow with easy presentations. His take on TTTCBE his excellent and has got me hooked onto that principle. Well explained and motivating. Well done John.
I missed the beginning of this, but what I have seen so far has been very thought provoking and a LOT of information is shared. I look forward to going back through and learning thoroughly, and expanding ideas further and applying to other routines.
since the first zero to hero course, The Academy and John helped my magic a lot progressing. This again is a great leap forward with a very powerful concept…. STRONGLY ADVICED
I have 5 stars and 5 squares. Now can you choose stars or squares to take out. You have chosen squares, so we shall take those out. Now what are you left with???? Yes it’s the 5 stars, which is what John Carey gets for yet another brilliant academy. This time it is in the art of Equivoque, as displayed above. This is such a simple and yet powerful principle that should be in every magician / mentalists repertoire. It can even help you with your influencing skills. This is yet another aspect of magic that John is not only skilled at but is an expert at teaching. Treat yourself. You need this course under your belt.
Wonderful! John Carey offers a practical and direct approach towards understanding the principles of equivoque. He then demonstrates them with some little gems of mental magic – whether propless or with effects including coins, cards and envelopes. Above all, he shows how that there’s a secret magic in words and linguistics that can create an engaging and entertaining experience for a spectator. Highly recommended.
Always lovely to see your excellence in free choice performance with such a confident no control, throw away prediction. Your early years development is paying off. Well done John.
Excellent presentation, really enjoying the straightforward engaging approach, and like the fact that the Alakazam team are taking part and enjoying it as much as we are. The Sunday afternoon/early evening slot is also great, as it is relaxing, and a nice end to the weekend. As a beginner to all this, it is also great to know that the some very experienced magicians online participating and adding such comments. I am watching this with my 8-year-old labrador, sadly, she has not yet been fooled by any of my beginner attempts at some of the equivocate I am now learning-but she will be!
this ids something i looked forward to and if you take some of these princerbles on board you can force anything giving them the thought of a free choice but infact they have no choice and look forward to trying some of theses things out
got up early to watch live from New Zealand. It was definitely worth it, if you want a practical, powerful tool to add to your armoury that will improve your magic or mentalism. Look no further use John’s trips and tips and practice, this will elevate your performance and astonish your audiences but only if done well. Bravo John
Hi This is a very enlightening and enjoyable Equivoque Masterclass from John Carey. I have learned a lot and been reminded of ideas I have forgotten about. Great Masterclass.
Equivoque is a very powerful tool in magic and John goes through all the fine details in this Academy course. Apart from learning how to use equivoque, John also teaches a series of effects using it. Once you have learned the principles of it you will be able to use it in so many ways and it is perfect for many impromptu effects. Also the second part is purely devoted to Trick that can’t be explained. An absolutely cracking course that everybody should get.
Great fun watching John force anything he wants on Harry. Learning so much with amazing input from the group chat just adding value to what I can take away from this and use.
To make equivoque work it needs to be presented without hesitation and with lots of confidence. In this Academy you get a chance to see exactly how to do this. You can read tons of material on this classic mentalism took but you need to see it in action to fully understand the impact it can have on an audience. In addition, this course provides you with the words you need (and those you must never use), the attitude you need to adopt and tons of examples of how to manage the various outcomes. I have learned a lot from this academy; primarily due to John’s excellent teaching and the chance to see him demonstrate its use over and over again.
Another great course! Thanks John for your easy to follow instrutions. This is going to be fun to use when I don’t have anything on me.
John Carey explains Equivoque at it’s basic form, he gives you an understanding of the technique. Suggestions to further enhance this have come from Michael Murray, Mick Wilson and Peter Nardi. Great lecture if you want to learn the process and put your own thinking into it.
John Carey has always been a great teacher of magic and this Academy is no exception. If you want to explore equivoque this is a no brainer. John takes great care to explain everything you need to know and what to avoid. The discussions are great and the chat has been lively and full of additional ideas.
When the idea was discussed of having John do an Academy on Equivoque I had no doubt that it would be Great “and it is”! Definitely a Diamond (and not in the Rough). One of the best from Mr Carey and Alakazam. Thank you once again.
excellent course john as always ,it has so much information for doing for the first time thank you again
John has a easy to understand and relaxed style to lecture presentation. I recommend this course for the information given and the easy way to approach this in your performance
John Carey always delivers great Academy courses. This one is a great course on the variety of Equivoque. “Free Willing” alone was well worth the price! In the past I have been put off using Equivoque but on watching this course it sparked my creativity interest again. Thank you John
