A COMPLETE SELL OUT AT THE BLACKPOOL MAGIC CONVENTION 2013!
Pablo Amira is world renown for his direct approach to mentalism and so when he approached Magicbox with a rather unique idea we were more than ready to listen. After several months in development Magicbox are happy to announce the imminent release of “Poker Face”.
Poker Face is a utility item for the modern mentalist comprising of five custom manufactured poker chips.
Not only are poker chips instantly recognizable the world over, the poker theme is perfectly suited to displays of people reading and prediction style effects. As an added bonus the natural link between the poker chips and playing cards opens up a whole new world of possibilities to explore.
Poker face comes complete with five custom manufactured poker chips, draw string carrying pouch and booklet outlining several routines direct from the creative minds of Pablo Amira and acclaimed mentalist Michael Murray.
CHIPrediction by Pablo Amira
Effect:
A spectator is handed a small object, sight unseen. They are then taken on an imaginary trip to a casino during which they select a colour, suit and value. These three details are used to create the name of a single playing card. Upon opening their hand the spectator discovers that they hold a single poker chip bearing the image of their thought of card!
Viva Cabaret by Michael Murray
Effect:
In an effort to demonstrate his people reading skills, three poker chips are handed to a spectator. The spectator is requested to mix the chips before placing each sight unseen into a different pocket. The mentalist removes a banknote from his pocket and requests that the spectator remove any chip secretly noting its value. Using his body language skills the mentalist is able to identify the value of the chip that the spectator is holding. As a kicker finish the locations of the two remaining chips are found to have been predicted on the back of the banknote.
Poker Will by Pablo Amira
Effect:
This is Pablos direct handling of the “Free Will” effect which was marketed by Deddy Corbuzier. In this routine we take advantage of the fact that we are using recognizable objects. (Two variations explained).
Sure Bet by Michael Murray
Effect:
The mentalist places a row of five poker chips onto the table with their values hidden. He then offers to play a simple game with the spectator and begins to make a small notation on the back of his business card. After placing his thoughts sight unseen onto the table the spectator is requested to mix up the chips. The mentalist and the spectator then take turns in selecting poker chips until all five have been distributed amongst the players. To keep everything fair the spectator is even allowed to choose first and is also given the edge by selecting three of the five chips for themselves. Despite the fairness of the procedure the mentalist wins by possessing the chips with the greater combined value. As an added kicker the mentalist’s notations are then read revealing that he had forecast the exact results of the game.
ChiCAAN by Michael Murray
Effect:
The mentalist introduces a pack of playing cards and four poker chips. He asks the spectator to take a card which is noted before being replaced back into the deck. The deck is placed off to one side and is never touched again by the performer. The spectator then selects one of the poker chips at random. Despite the fairness of the spectator’s choices the name of the freely selected card is found printed upon the reverse side of the poker chip. What’s more is that the value of the freely selected chip also correctly identifies the exact position of the selected card within the deck!
Additional Thoughts by Pablo Amira:
Pablo explains how you can use the supplied poker chips to perform a variation of Max Mavens “Kurotsuke” effect.
Note: Purchasers of this effect will also get access to a web page which will be updated with additional thoughts and ideas for these chips as they develop.
